It took me years of business-pain to realize this

Don't be stupid like me and build the wrong business

It took me years of business-pain to realize this:

Building a business that MIGHT make you rich takes a very long time. Much longer than you think when you start.

And when you truly accept that, you realize how stupid it is to do something you're not passionate about just because it looks like a money printer (hint: it almost never is).

And by passionate, I mean passionate about the process, the inputs, not just the outcome.

A successful bakery with happy customers sounds romantic. The real version is 10-hour baking days, cleaning, purchasing, planning, sweating, grinding. If you don’t enjoy that whole package, even a little, you'll burn out long before you react the romantic part.

I know this because I've experience this myself. I build a business with my parents for the right reasons, but stayed in it for the wrong reasons.

If you want to read more about how we intentionally dialled down our business to be happier, check out my X post here.

Spoiler: "I haven't been as happy for a long time. It feels like I’m finally breaking free from a prison of my own making, and I can pursue other interests I’ve been curious about for years. "

God speed,
Mathias
